History
Our story begins in the mid-1990s, before the term "hospitalist" had even been coined. Four groups of physicians in Southern California began discussing ways to design and build the most effective hospital medicine program.
These physicians had been providing inpatient care for their hospital's primary care physicians, who had adopted this model as a way to manage their outpatient practices more efficiently. Early on, they saw three advantages of the hospitalist model:
-
The Potential to Significantly Improve Standardization of Care
-
Implementation of Evidence-based Protocols
-
Better Management of the Entire Inpatient Stay Process
Ultimately, they believed, this would create more efficient hospitals, more satisfied patients and more satisfied referring physicians.
Armed with this idea, these physicians built a support team in operations, information technology, data capture and analysis, finance, and clinical support. The result is Cogent Healthcare, now acknowledged as the industry leader in quality and adding value for our hospital partners.
